personal, well-coordinated care for hospitalized kids
Pediatric hospitalists are physicians who specialize in caring for children who have been admitted to the hospital.
A pediatric hospitalist may be involved in your child’s care during an inpatient stay at Dayton Children’s. For many patients, a pediatric hospitalist will be the physician leading your child’s care team as the attending physician, or they may partner with one of our subspecialist physicians in order to help manage general pediatric concerns. Depending on your child’s needs, this doctor might be the pediatric surgeon; a subspecialist, such as a pediatric neurologist; or your child’s primary care physician. When this is the case, the pediatric hospitalist will still be involved in your child’s inpatient care, by helping to address any general issues and concerns.
Because pediatric hospitalists focus on caring for children who require hospital-level care, they are highly trained experts at diagnosing and treating children with serious illnesses as well as children with complex medical conditions.
Our pediatric hospitalists will also work closely with the nursing staff, your child’s primary care doctor and you and your child, to create a plan of care for both during and after the hospital stay.
