family-centered care
why family-centered care matters
Family-centered care is at the heart of our commitment to you and your child. It is a model of care that places the highest priority of your family’s experiences, concerns and goals. Parents and caregivers are very important members of the care team! You know your child best, and we value your input. We want you to ask questions, share your concerns and make suggestions about how we can care for your child in the best possible way. Likewise, our care team will be open and honest with you as we talk about your child’s progress, the decisions we are making about your child’s care, what test results mean and next steps. You are welcome to ask questions and share your perspective about your child’s care at any time during your child’s hospital stay.
Family-centered rounds are an important element of family-centered care. Each morning, the pediatric hospitalist will come to your child’s room to talk about how your child is doing. We will discuss the care plan, consider any changes that need to be made, make sure you understand any test results and answer any questions you may have. We will also ask you to share your impressions, ideas and concerns. This is a great opportunity for us to make sure we are all communicating with each other and on the same page!
