At your visit, the physician will do a full physical exam. They will also review labs that were ordered before your visit, and review the diet history. The lipid clinic team will then provide assessment, discuss and order further testing as needed, and will start a treatment plan.

Testing helps us learn more about your child so that we can design the best treatment plan for your child. Some tests that may be ordered after your evaluation are:

• Exercise intolerance
• Sleep testing
• Cardiac testing (Echocardiogram and EKG to measure heart function)
• Standard blood work
• REE (resting energy expenditure to determine caloric needs)
• Oral glucose tolerance

Each child will receive a treatment plan based on their specific needs. The plans commonly include diet and exercise pieces as well as a medical treatment plan that includes blood work and medical testing based on patient need. Other treatments like medication or surgical options are discussed based on each child’s needs.
