preparing for general surgery clinic
Pediatric general surgery clinics are located on the hospital’s main campus and south campus and provide pre-surgery consultations and post-operative care. A typical visit to the surgery clinic involves a physical exam, conversation about any test results and medication needs, and time to answer questions and talk about the potential need for surgery.
Depending on their symptoms and diagnosis, some patients may be seen by a pediatric surgeon, others by a certified nurse practitioner, who is specially trained to care for patients with common conditions that require surgery.
When you and your child arrive for any visit, please wear comfortable and loose clothing and bring:
- Your insurance information
- Your driver’s license
Any required forms from your school, state or outside agency
pre-operation visit
Your child will have a physical examination. If labs or imaging are indicated, they will be ordered. If your child requires surgery, it will be scheduled at a time that is acceptable to both the family and the surgeon. If surgery is scheduled, the surgeon will discuss the procedure, pain control, and activity limitations as appropriate.
post-operation visit
You will be asked to make an appointment for a post-operative visit. Please call the clinic at 937-461-5020, on the day of discharge, to make the appointment. Your post-operative visit will focus on your child’s wellbeing following their procedure and may include an evaluation of incisions.
