why choose Dayton Children’s for neurosurgical care?
When it’s your child, only the best will do. That’s why neurosurgical care at Dayton Children’s goes above and beyond to care for your child as if they are our own.
extensive training
Pediatric neurosurgeons have the knowledge, education and expertise to operate on and care for the smallest babies, young children and growing adolescents. Special training is important!
The pediatric neurosurgeons at Dayton Children’s are board-certified medical doctors who have:
- Six or more years of residency training in neurological surgery
- Fellowship training in pediatric neurosurgery
- Experience at the top pediatric hospitals in the world
- On average 20 years of experience
The team of neurosurgeons at Dayton Children’s perform over 200 neurosurgeries every year and have expertise in procedures that can only be found at a select group of hospitals nationwide. Dr. Kamian is one of only a couple dozen neurosurgeons in the entire country who has expertise in peripheral nerve surgeries and the only one in our area. He is also among the first in the country to use the latest FDA-approved technology to help children control drug-resistant epilepsy.
the latest research and technology
Dayton Children’s participates in research studies with Miami Valley Hospital’s neurosurgery department as part of the Wright State University and Premier Health Neuroscience Institute. This means that patients at Dayton Children’s will benefit from the research being done between these three organizations in the neurosciences field.
Dayton Children’s is also home to a 3T MRI scanner that has brought new functionality and clearer images to the Dayton region. This scanner was the region’s first 3T MRI scanner to be implemented.
The “T” in 3T MRI stands for “Tesla” which refers to the strength of the magnet used to produce the diagnostic images. The 3T MRI allows radiologists to produce images with twice the quality and clarity as the previous scanner. This level of clarity can help to find subtle abnormalities that a 1.5T scanner is unable to detect.
just right for kids
Everything from the diagnostic tools used to the surgical suites at Dayton Children’s are specifically designed with kids and teens in mind. We offer low-dose radiation CT scans in order to minimize the amount of radiation a child is exposed to. Our surgical suites also have child-sized equipment and surgical tools, and the physician-led neurosurgical team is trained to meet the surgical needs and concerns of children. In addition, all surgeons at Dayton Children’s work with pediatric anesthesiologists, the only ones in the region trained to safely sedate children of all sizes.
