Many times a child’s ongoing medical conditions often require additional resources to assist parents and caregivers. With our Family Support Resource Directory, you can search resources that span over the 20-county area that Dayton Children’s serves. You can quickly connect to local, regional and national resources to help you locate information about education, healthcare, financial, transition, recreation, networking, future planning and more.

This guide is organized to help you find the information that you need:

  • To the right are pages specific to parents, professionals and teens. This may be a good starting point for those new to our directory.
  • To the left is a list of categories that our resources cover.
  • Finally, below is a search bar specifically for our Special Needs Resource Center that you can tailor to your county or specific needs.

In addition to the resource center, we also offer the complete KidsHealth Library to help parents learn more about a specific condition. Information is given in easy-to-understand terms and in many cases available in Spanish as well as English.

Emergency Information Form for Children with Special Needs

Description

The American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics created an Emergency Information Form (EIF), which can be downloaded on their website. This important document will assure prompt and appropriate care for Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN). When patients present to emergency departments or health care professionals with an acute illness or injury, physicians, parents, EMS professionals, and nurses will be able to use the EIF as a tool to transfer critical information.

Emerging Horizons

Description

Emerging Horizons is an on-line magazine about accessible travel for wheelchair-users to slow walkers. It is published quarterly, with additional articles available exclusively to subscribers in the months when a new issue is not released. All subscribers receive a password that allows them access to a password protected section of the Emerging Horizons website, where all of their subscribed back issues and bonus content are archived. A searchable index is also housed in this section, which allows subscribers to find articles on specific topics or destinations.
