leading the way in transforming health care for kids

The outside transformation at Dayton Children’s is hard to miss these days, however it’s what’s happening inside that is the true evolution of pediatric health care. Each change is based on the hospital’s mission to treat every child as if they were the only child and the vision to go above and beyond in improving the health status of all children.

To continue that transformation long after the construction cranes and crews are gone, Adam Mezoff, MD, CPE, AGAF, will assume an additional duty as vice president of health care transformation. Dr. Mezoff is currently chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs at Dayton Children’s – titles he will continue to hold in conjunction with the new vice president role.

“Adam is a true visionary,” says Deborah A. Feldman, president and CEO. “He works tirelessly to achieve his goals and ensure the children of our region have access to the highest quality, specialized care.

“My primary focus will be on continuing to raise the bar when it comes to reliability and quality,” says Dr. Mezoff. “Health care is evolving at a tremendously fast pace. In this role, I will focus on advancements and implement them in the best way possible, for each department and for the entire hospital. We have an outstanding staff of physicians and nurses. My job will be to help support them in adopting best practices in quality, safety and high reliability. We would like to serve as a national example of how all communities can have world class care for children close to home.”

As chief medical officer, Dr. Mezoff also oversees the medical directors and professional staff of Dayton Children’s, medical and corporate education, quality and patient safety initiatives. As part of continued commitment to a physician-led, professionally-managed organization, he will also serve as interim CEO, should the need arise.

Dr. Mezoff has been instrumental in implementing change at Dayton Children’s. He led participation in Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) - a first-of-its-kind effort by more than 100 children’s hospitals across the country to improve patient safety, which reduced the average rate of many hospital acquired conditions.

Dr. Mezoff led the development of Dayton Children’s gastroenterology and nutrition support program as its director for 18 years. Then he worked as a pediatric gastroenterologist at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center where he published and presented numerous articles and abstracts. In addition, he served as the inpatient Epic team leader and as well as the gastroenterology division clinical science improvement officer.

In March 2013, he accepted the position of chief medical officer/vice president for medical affairs at Dayton Children’s where he continues to practice pediatric gastroenterology along with his administrative duties. He is the author of 40 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, eight textbook chapters as well as more than 80 abstracts presented at regional, national and international meetings. Dr. Mezoff has served on several state and national committees including his current role as clinical co-lead of the Ohio Children’s Hospital Safety Committee.

He received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati and completed his residency and fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s. He is board certified in pediatric gastroenterology and is a certified physician executive.
