Boonshoft School of Medicine Psychiatry Services

Boonshoft School of Medicine Psychiatry Services is accepting new patients, ages 5 and older. They do not see any patient who has had an inpatient psychiatric hospitalization within the past 2 years.

This clinic is run by 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year residents. Depending on availability, children may need to be seen by a resident who is not going to specialize in children, but they would have that conversation with the family to make sure they are okay with it.

Intake process: The family will call and leave a message that will be returned within 2 business days. They will do a clinic screening over the phone for 5-10 minutes, asking basic information, why they want to be seen in the clinic. The family will fill out some paperwork, and the resident will usually contact them directly to schedule within 2-3 weeks. They will have the resident’s direct phone number for communication. Psychiatry residents work very closely with the patient, with the goal of weekly appointments for the first 10 weeks. They do Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with their patients and work on processing what is going on before going to medications. Parents must be in the first 4 sessions for minor patients before possibly transitioning to private sessions. All sessions are recorded for strictly supervision purposes, and are destroyed when the resident graduates.

Psychiatry is private pay only, but families can use their HSA account if they have it. An intake appointment for psychiatry is $40, and follow up appointments are $40. They do not accept Medicaid or Medicare.

To make an appointment, call (937) 775-7792. For more information about Wright State Physicians Psychiatry, go to wrightstatephysicians.org/psych.
