Dayton Children’s Hospital has been named as a Best Children’s Hospital and received a Best Pediatric Emergency Care award from the Women’s Choice Award®, America’s trusted referral source for the best in health care for the sixth year in a row.

When it comes to health care, children are not little adults and need health care designed specifically to meet their needs. Children’s hospitals are specifically designed to take care of the child through a family-centered approach to medicine and serve kids at each stage of growth and development, requiring differently sized equipment and a range of expertise.  As teaching hospitals, children’s hospitals train the next generation of pediatricians and pediatric specialists to care for children.

“We found in our studies that 75% percent of women associate children’s hospitals with care for seriously ill children and nearly 50% of women are unfamiliar with the full offerings of a children’s hospital,” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award. “Our goal at the Women’s Choice Award is to help moms—and dads—make educated, confident decisions about where to take their children for a wide range of healthcare services.”

“At Dayton Children’s, parents and guardians know we treat their children as if they are our own,” said Debbie Feldman, president and CEO of Dayton Children’s Hospital. “We are honored that the Women’s Choice Award proves that trust.”

The Best Children’s Hospitals designation is based on a weighted point system using publicly available data on children’s hospitals in the nation. The award criteria looks at four different areas to determine which children’s hospital is eligible for the Women’s Choice Award.  These areas are Online Reviews, Clinical Success Score, Clinical Safety Score and the extent of Pediatric Services offered.  Extra points were assigned to hospitals that have taken additional steps to offer the highest level of care for services.
