Dayton Children’s Hospital partners with Anthem and local pediatricians to create a new information sharing and payment model
Dayton Children’s Health Partners becomes Ohio’s first pediatric clinically integrated network
Dayton Children’s Hospital, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio, and more than 50 Miami Valley pediatricians collaborated to create the new Dayton Children’s Health Partners clinically integrated network. The new network improves information flow to doctors, provides more powerful data analysis and establishes reimbursement models that reward high quality care delivery and an improved consumer experience.
This collaboration is the first of its kind in the Dayton region and the first in the state for a pediatric population. Dayton Children’s Hospital acts as program administrator, managing high level health indicators across the entire patient population and completing a circle of coordinated care around the child through better information flow.
Anthem collaborates with the physician groups to improve the health status of their patient population by identifying opportunities to increase preventive care, medication adherence and vaccination delivery. With data and value-based payment models provided by Anthem, Dayton Children’s Health Partners can give participating pediatricians the information and financial support needed to deliver the best care to their patients.
“The goal of this program is to improve health and well-being of our children at a lower cost,” says Lisa Henderson, director of Dayton Children’s Health Partners. “By integrating systems, tracking quality measures and having evidence-based standards in place, we can ensure that our families get cost-effective, high-quality care across the entire spectrum.”
Nine Miami Valley pediatric practices will participate in the new collaboration.
“This collaboration allows pediatricians' offices to work together instead of separately,” says Gregory Eberhart, MD, a pediatrician at Cornerstone Pediatrics in Springboro and chair of Dayton Children’s Health Partners board of trustees. “We share information and resources, and can provide new services in collaboration that separately we couldn’t afford to offer.”
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio President Steve Martenet says the partnership is an important step in the health care system’s transformation towards an outcome-based payment model that rewards physicians for coordinating care that helps children get and stay healthy.
“As we continue building a more accessible and affordable health care system, collaboration among doctors, hospitals and insurers is the foundation of that effort,” said Martenet. “This partnership with Dayton Children’s and forward-thinking physicians is a great example of where the entire health care system needs to go.”
