Aja took the next step with Dayton Children's career connections
Dayton Children’s is committed to helping staff achieve their goals and continue to grow. The career connections program introduces opportunities that can help expand horizons when you’re looking for the next step in your career - and this is exactly what Aja Oliver was looking for. After working at Dayton Children's Hospital as patient account specialist for over 20 years, a internal advertisement about our career connections program caught her eye, and she was intrigued.
"I thought to myself that this would be a great opportunity to check out departments that I have been interested working in and that I have worked in the past with on different projects," she said.
After filling out an interest form, she was given the opportunity to shadow in the marketing department. Now, she's the marketing department's office coordinator. She helps the department with a variety of tasks, including managing payroll, monitoring supply purchases and invoices, scheduling meetings and photoshoots, managing promotional item inventory, monitoring media coverage and coordinating incoming and outgoing mail.
"I'm glad I made the move in this new role as an office coordinator," said Aja. "It has made me a better person and continues making me a better person, learning something new every other day and pushing me out of my comfort zone."
Aja says she's discovered a newfound love for providing others with the tools to help their job run a bit smoother. She's learned how to be ready on the spot, jump in at a moment's notice and time manage.
"I encourage everyone, if you see something that interests you regarding taking your career at Dayton Children's to the next level, to reach out, ask questions and give it a try," said Aja. "You never know how things may turn out."
