8-17-2020 - South campus surgery restarts with select clinics
South campus surgery will begin offering surgeries once again on Monday, August 17. Surgeries will include urology, pediatric ENT and dentistry only and take place on Mondays and Fridays. Please contact your specialist's office if you have questions.
7-20-2020 - Dayton Children's Kids Express West Chester reopens

7-2-2020 - Dayton Children's main campus children's garden reopens
The children's garden across from Dayton Children's Hospital main campus is now reopened. Families will notice new hand sanitizing stations and safety rule signs posted.
We ask families using the park to please:
-Sanitize hands
-Be symptom free
-Social distance
6-7-2020 - Dayton Children's south campus urgent care in Springboro reopens
We encourage families to save their spot online before coming to minimize your wait time and the time their family spends inside the building. View wait times and save your spot at childrensdayton.org/saveyourspot
As a reminder, visitor restrictions are still in place. Patients may have two adults caregivers with them, but when possible families are encouraged to limit to one adult caregiver. No other visitors will permitted, including siblings. On arrival all patients and caregivers will be screened, have their temperature taken and will be required to wear a mask (provided if you do not have your own). 5-1-2020 - Dayton Children's shares COVID-19 update on rescheduling surgeries and appointments
As you heard in Governor DeWine’s news conference this week, hospitals are now allowed to perform surgeries that do not require an overnight stay. We know that many families had appointments and surgeries postponed during this time and are anxious to get them rescheduled. We are diligently working to prioritize and reschedule these surgeries.
We also know families may have questions about whether it’s safe to do those surgeries. Every family’s safety is still our top priority. We have additional measures in place to protect them. A few of those include:
• EVERYONE is screened for symptoms and provided a mask before entering
• Additional and extensive sanitizing of surfaces and spaces with hospital-grade cleaning solutions that kill the virus in one minute
• Waiting room, registration area and process redesigns to encourage social distancing and touchless interactions
If you had a surgery postponed, you can expect to hear from our team soon to reschedule and to learn what to expect while at the hospital, especially those additional safety measures we have in place. Thank you for your patience!

4-11-2020 - Dayton Children's temporarily closes Kids Express in West Chester and Mason
Starting Sunday, April 12, Dayton Children’s Kids Express in Mason and West Chester will temporarily close in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Kids Express in Springboro will remain open (662 N Main St, Springboro, OH 45066). If you have a medical emergency, please call 911 or go to an emergency department. For non-emergency care needs, please call your primary care provider first. If they're not available, go to childrensdayton.org/wait-times for more on-demand care options.
4-8-2020 - Dayton Children’s begins "social masking" for all visitors
For the protection of our patients and visitors, Dayton Children’s is implementing “social masking” during the screening process beginning April 9 at 7:00 am. All visitors (adults and children) will receive a disposable mask after they are screened. If the family member arrives with a cloth mask and would like to keep and wear the cloth mask; that is acceptable.
why the change?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to study the spread and effects of the novel coronavirus across the United States. Studies show that many people with coronavirus lack symptoms and that even people who eventually develop symptoms can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms. Therefore, implementing social masking protects visitors and our staff against the possible spread of infection.
what if I have my own cloth mask?
The CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies). Disposable hospital masks are more effective against the spread of illness than cloth because they provide a barrier against fluids (e.g., spit).
If you come to the hospital with your own homemade cloth mask, you may continue to wear it, but we will be happy to provide you with a disposable hospital mask on-site for your protection and the protection of others.
If you are visiting over multiple days, you may receive a new mask each day at the Welcome Center. If your mask becomes soiled or breaks, the unit leadership will have a replacement for you at the unit level. We do need you to go to the Welcome Center each day to get rescreened and a new arm band with new date of screening.
4-1-2020 - Dayton Children’s requires all employees to begin wearing facemasks
One way that Dayton Children’s Hospital is committing to the safety of its patients, families and staff is by requiring all hospital employees to begin wearing facemasks beginning April 1, 2020.
Your safety and that of our care team is our top priority and we will be wearing these masks when caring for all patients. We made this decision with feedback taken from the Children’s Hospital Association, the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association (GDAHA), and several areas in the nation who have been dramatically impacted by COVID-19.
3-28-2020 - Dayton Children’s temporarily closes urgent care at south campus in Springboro
In response to the Ohio outbreak of COVID-19, the urgent care at our south campus in Springboro is currently closed. For minor conditions, please visit one of our Kids Express locations, if your primary care physician is not available. For urgent care needs, our main and south campus emergency departments are open 24/7. You can also visit our Huber Heights urgent care.
3-23-2020 - Dayton Children’s temporarily closes multiple outpatient care centers
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, Dayton Children's is temporarily closing several outpatient care centers including the Beavercreek, Kettering, Vandalia, Lima, Springfield and Warren locations. These closings are effective Monday, March 23, 2020.

Changes to Dayton Children's visitor restrictions for COVID-19 went into effect. Please view our most up to date visitor restrictions.
3-19-2020 - update on elective surgeries and clinic visits
In accordance with Ohio Governor, Mike DeWine’s new guidelines, we are making changes to elective surgeries and patient clinic visits at Dayton Children’s.
For surgeries that are not urgent, providers are reviewing each case to determine if it should continue on schedule or if it can be rescheduled safely for a later date. Parents will be contacted to discuss the options, as needed.
For clinic visits, if parents or child are sick, we are asking them to reschedule their appointment for date when they will be feeling better. Our care teams are also reaching out to families with four options for their scheduled visit:
• In-person
• Telephone consultation
• Video visit
• Reschedule
If parents do not hear from their care team within 24 hours before the appointment, please give the clinic a call. Rest assured, we will take care of each child in any way necessary, based on each individual circumstance.
3-18-2020 - Dayton Children’s launches hotline for COVID-19
A new parent hotline is now open and available to answer parent's questions about COVID-19 as it relates to kids. The number is 1-888-746-KIDS (5437) and is staffed by nurses from 8:00 am to midnight.
3-14-2020 - visitor restrictions for COVID-19
Dayton Children’s implemented a new visitor screening process for COVID-19. We will be asking everyone to enter through the main entrance at our main campus and the urgent care entrance at south campus. Every patient, caregiver and visitor will be asked screening questions regarding any signs of fever, cough or trouble breathing. Thank you for your cooperation in this process.

3-9-2020 - Facts about COVID-19
In December 2019, a new form of the coronavirus was documented in the Wuhan province of China. It is a different version from the coronavirus that we typically see and test for in our emergency department (which is similar to the common cold). Dayton Children’s enacted screening and safety protocols in February. With cases growing in the U.S., we are developing staffing and triage plans in preparation for the virus reaching Ohio.
