At Dayton Children’s, we believe that parents and caregivers are the most important members of the care team. For over 50 years we have provided our NICU patients with family-centered care in a friendly, developmentally supportive and healing environment.
Our Level III NICU is the most comprehensive NICU in the region and is the main referral center for premature and sick newborns. Newborns who reach our center have a 99 percent survival rate and a low incidence of complications.
Our NICU is designed to meet the special needs of our medically fragile patients—and help their families develop close bonds with them as they grow stronger under our care.
NICU team members include board-certified neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, advanced practice nurses, staff nurses, lactation specialists, registered dietitian nutritionists, social worker, pharmacist and occupational, physical, respiratory and speech therapists. Dayton Children’s NICU also has 24/7 access to pediatric and surgical specialists.
Babies who come to the Dayton Children’s NICU are often very sick and need extensive treatment or surgery. Some are born weeks early and weigh only a pound. Working closely with families, we help these fragile babies heal and develop so that they can reach their full potential.
