Lymphomas are cancers that develop in the lymphatic system, which is part of the immune system. Lymphomas are the third most common pediatric cancer typer, accounting for 15% of all cases.

signs and symptoms

  • Swelling or lump in the belly
  • Swelling of lymphnodes
  • Fever
  • Pain
  • Nausea
  • Poor appetite

types of lymphoma

  • Hodgkin's lymphoma is the presence of Reed-Sternberg cells, a specifc type of abnormal cells, in the cancerous lymph node. 
  • Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is a cancer that starts in white blood cells (lymphocytes).

diagnosis and treatment

A diagnosis begins with a physical examination looking for enlarged lymph nodes and areas of swelling. Then the following tests can be used to confirm a diagnosis:

  • Blood Tests
  • CT Scan
  • PET Scan
  • Biopsy of affected tissue

Treatment options include:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Targeted therapy
  • Radiation therapy
  • Stem cell transplant
