Dan Sweeny selected as a Forty Under 40 award winner

Congratulations to Dan Sweeny, Director, Population Health at Dayton Children's, on receiving a 2024 Forty Under 40 Award from the Dayton Business Journal!

In its twenty-seventh year, Forty Under 40 honors the region’s brightest young business leaders for their career accomplishments and community impact. This year’s class was chosen by a panel of judges from among 200 nominees. Since the Forty Under 40 award program began in 1998, more than 900 individuals have been recognized, including Dayton Children’s own Casey Hookfin, Brenden Wynn, Adam Blanchard and Dr. Sean Antosh.

Since joining Dayton Children’s in 2016, Dan has significantly improved access to care by enhancing digital strategies, including implementing two-way texting with patient clinic teams, online self-scheduling and his proudest accomplishment, video visits.

“I am extremely honored and humbled to receive this award. It is even more meaningful to represent Dayton Children’s where the number of individuals that are worthy of this honor is many,” said Dan. “As a native Daytonian I am proud to be recognized alongside 39 impressive peers that are contributing to this great city.”

Outside of his work at the hospital, Dan is active in the community. He serves as president-elect of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dayton (JFGD), vice president for Daybreak and volunteers for the Dayton chapter of the American Heart Association. When not working or volunteering, Dan enjoys coaching sports for his three children.

His biggest piece of advice for young professionals is to make professional relationships a priority. “Even if the opportunity may stray from your desired path, it is a chance for growth and development,” he told the Dayton Business Journal.

“I have loved working at Dayton Children’s and helping to fulfill our mission. The way we have grown in the last 10+ years is nothing short of incredible and is something each one of us should be proud of,” said Dan.

“More than anything, having had the opportunity to seek out care for my own kids has provided me a different perspective. Whether for simple visits at Kids Express or emergent surgery, the care teams have proven each time why I am so proud to work here. We are so fortunate to have this pediatric organization right here in Dayton.”

Congratulations Dan on being named a Forty Under 40 winner! You are a role model in our hospital and community!
