Jessica McCarthy, PsyD

bio

Dr. McCarthy is a pediatric psychologist who specializes in working with children, adolescents, and their families who have chronic medical conditions, chronic pain, and functional and somatic symptoms disorders. She is currently integrated into gastroenterology, providing care for children and adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease, constipation/encopresis, and disorders of the gut-brain interaction (DGBIs). She also helps facilitate The Comfort Ability Program (CAP).

Dr. McCarthy is no stranger to Dayton Children's - She did training here during graduate school, and completed her pediatric psychology post-doctoral fellowship at Dayton Children's.

I chose my specialty because...

chronic medical conditions, pain, and/or somatic symptoms have a significant impact on children and adolescent's mental and physical health. I chose this specialty to provide a variety of coping skills to help children and adolescents live a life where pain and symptoms do not interfere with what they want to accomplish.

I admire their resilience, strength, honesty, creativity, and energy.

I chose to work at Dayton Children's because...

everyone goes above and beyond for a child's care. I completed a practicum here during graduate school and I knew I wanted to come back to work here after I finished school and training.
