nutrition clinic
The nutrition clinic at Dayton Children’s is staffed by pediatric dietitians who are experts in nutrition therapy for kids. Patients can be referred to the nutrition clinic by either a physician or counselor or can self-refer.
your visit
During a visit, patients and parents will have the chance to meet with the dietitian for one hour. This allows plenty of time to discuss everything related to the patient’s nutrition needs and work on plans to make sure they will be getting the food and drinks they need to stay healthy and support their growing body!
During a visit to the nutrition clinic the dietitian may:
- Complete a full nutritional assessment
- Assess your child’s growth and nutritional status
- Help you set goals
- Assist in developing meal plans
- Provide education
- Provide guidance on behavior changes
- Help parents and kids decide who is responsible for which changes
Some of the conditions we see patients for the nutrition clinic include:
- Food allergies
- Picky eating
- Lipid disorders
- Weight issues
- Celiac disease
- Diabetes
- Eating disorders
- Vegetarian diet
- Sports nutrition
additional information
You and your dietitian might decide to see each other more than one or two times, to check in on successes and challenges. It’s normal to run into challenges as you make habit changes and we want to be there to help you through to the other side!
If your child is under 5 years old and does not need to be weighed, parents or guardians are welcome to come alone if it helps you focus on your time with the dietitian.
Starting January 1, 2024, the cost of nutrition clinic visits will depend on your insurance provider. Please contact our billing experts at 937-641-3555 if you have any questions about coverage of your appointment.
