Dr. Rachael Courtney is a pediatric hematologist and oncologist at Dayton Children's Hospital.

Prior to joining the Dayton Children's hematology/oncology team, Dr. Courtney spent several years at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee where she was a staff physician and instructor.

I chose my specialty because...

I am interested in the science behind these disorders enjoy working with challenging medical cases. Whether it is an emergency case or a complex oncological condition, I feel lucky to be part of a medical team that can help kids and families find help and cures. I also wanted to spend my career making a difference and fulfilling my passion for teaching the next generation.

I like working with kids because...

Children are truly innocent and should never have to experience serious illness. I feel lucky every day that I have a chance to make them better.

It was abundantly clear that they care deeply about the children they care for and strive every day to make sure the care here is top notch.

I just feel as if she did not listen to me thoroughly. I just feel like she was comparing everything to what his half brother has and didn't really look into his case much. I mean, I told her multiple times, like I did not believe he was sick. I don't believe it was from vile depression. I believe it was something more. And she kind of just blew it off saying it was vile, viral depression. Wasn't anything like his half brother. Nobody said it was his half brother's disease. But yeah, that's about it.

DR. Courtney was is amazing. She explained things thoroughly and really helped my daughter understand the plan of care.

She was very caring, informative, and made sure I understood everything.

All of the staff were amazing for her first infusion! Took a lot of time to explain and were very understanding.
