training programs
From fellowships and residencies to nursing, dietetic programs and more, we offer hands-on learning experiences that prepare the next generation of pediatric experts.
Dayton Children’s pediatric residency program offers comprehensive, hands-on training in general and subspecialty pediatrics. Residents work closely with experienced faculty, gaining exposure to a wide range of patient populations and clinical settings.
Our pharmacy residency program provides advanced clinical training in pediatric pharmacotherapy. Residents collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop skills in medication management, research and patient education in a family-centered environment.
The pediatric emergency medicine fellowship prepares physicians to deliver expert, evidence-based care in high-acuity settings. Fellows train in the region’s only Level 1 pediatric trauma center, gaining experience in emergency procedures, research and leadership.
Our pediatric hospital medicine fellowship provides advanced training in inpatient pediatric care, quality improvement and leadership. Fellows learn to manage complex cases, coordinate multidisciplinary care and improve systems that support hospitalized children.
Dayton Children’s offers nursing training programs designed to build clinical confidence and pediatric expertise. Participants receive structured mentorship, skill-based learning and hands-on experience in a supportive, team-based environment. Programs include nurse externships, residencies and graduate nurse clinical practicums.
Our dietetic education programs give students and interns real-world experience in pediatric nutrition and clinical dietetics. Opportunities include internships, supervised practice hours and volunteer experiences in hospital and community settings.
Through our child life education programs, students gain valuable experience supporting children and families during medical experiences. Internships provide hands-on learning alongside certified child life specialists in a compassionate pediatric setting.

For practicing healthcare professionals, we provide continuing education opportunities including grand rounds, simulation training, recorded webinars and more—helping you stay current and deliver the best possible care to kids and families.
Our simulation education program offers immersive, team-based learning that strengthens clinical skills, communication and response in real-world scenarios. Participants gain confidence through hands-on pediatric simulations and debrief sessions.
Dayton Children’s is proud to offer PALS courses free of charge to EMS providers in our catchment area. The Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) courses have been presented by the expert team of faculty from Dayton Children’s since 1988 and are designed for healthcare providers or local certified EMS professionals who initiate and direct basic through advanced life support.
Our pediatric EMS education program equips emergency medical providers with the skills and knowledge to care for children in pre-hospital settings. Training covers pediatric trauma, medical emergencies, age-appropriate assessment techniques and more.
Pediatric grand rounds at Dayton Children’s feature expert-led presentations across a wide range of specialties. Sessions may cover advances in research, complex cases or practical strategies that support high-quality patient care. By participating, you’ll hear from leaders in the field and gain insights that can strengthen your practice.

Dayton Children’s Tuesday Talks with a specialist offers providers convenient, lunchtime virtual sessions featuring pediatric experts on timely specialty care topics. Sessions feature a variety of pediatric specialties and may be counted for continuing medical education (CME) credit.
