Dr. Albert and Jayne Gmeiner named Dayton Business Journal Health Care Heroes
Congratulations to Dr. Michael Albert and Jayne Gmeiner on being named 2022 Dayton Business Journal Health Care Heroes.
Each year, the Dayton Business Journal shines a light on Greater Dayton health care professionals who have made an impact on the industry through their:
- concern for patients
- research and inventions
- management skills
- innovative employee programs
- service to the poor and uninsured
- community engagement.
Seventeen awardees were honored with one of four awards: innovator, manager, provider or patient experience. In 2021, Rob Lober, Dayton Children's neurosurgeon, received an innovator award.
It was exciting to watch Jayne accept her manager award and Dr. Albert accept his innovator award during the health care hero banquet this week.
Michael Albert, MD, chief of orthopedics - innovator award
Dr. Albert discovered his passion for orthopedics in medical school and wanted to combine it with his love for pediatrics. Joining Dayton Children's over 30 years ago, Dr. Albert specializes in spine surgery.
"It’s been amazing to me over the past 30+ years how medicine has evolved and changed, particularly in orthopedic surgery and in pediatric spine surgery," said Dr. Albert. "We have seen awesome technological advances and innovation, and I certainly look forward to continue to participate in innovative changes to make surgery safer and improve our results."
He has been named as one of America's Best Doctors several times and now - a health care hero innovator.
"I am thrilled to be named a Health Care Hero," said Dr. Albert. "My entire career has been at Dayton Children's. I have been blessed by an excellent team of professionals that have enhanced my career and made my job easy."

Jayne Gmeiner, vice president and chief nursing officer - manager award
Jayne began as Dayton Children's vice president for patient care services and chief nursing officer in 2015. She
supports the patient and family experience, operational lead for the emergency departments, urgent care, KidsExpress, respiratory therapy, home care and inpatient units.
She was awarded a manager health care hero award.
"I am honored to receive this award, which is a reflection of our entire nursing and interprofessional team and our journey the last two and a half years through the pandemic," said Jayne. "The award is not about me...it's about the team I have the privilege to serve as chief nursing officer."
