Dayton Children’s wins Emmy Award for "connected" documentary
The Dayton Children’s marketing department brought home an Emmy Award on Saturday, July 20 in Lexington, Kentucky at the The Ohio Valley Emmy awards presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for their documentary "connected: the seemingly impossible separation of Pedro and Augusto." This year's Emmy Awards had a record-breaking 976 entries and 346 nominees representing excellence in broadcasting and content creation.
Judges from across the country were asked to review content, visual technique and overall impact of the entries from the Ohio Valley chapter, which includes professionals from thirteen markets across four states. The Emmy statue remains property of the Academy and is not given to an organization, but individuals. The following individuals from Dayton Children's marketing communications team received an Emmy on behalf of the hospital for their work on this project:
- Todd Carter – video storyteller
- Katie Solovey – manager of service line marketing and media relations
- Stacy Porter – director of public relations
- Grace Jones – director of consumer branding
“I’m so incredibly proud of each of these individuals and so many others who poured their heart, soul and so many hours into this project,” says Grace. “I thank God often for surrounding me with such incredible humans that I get to do this work with and for giving me the chance to tell these incredible stories.
I have a sign in my office that says, “magic is something you make.” And while this award is certainly an incredible honor, it wouldn’t be possible without all the right people and pieces being in place to make magic.”
Todd Carter, Dayton Children’s video storyteller, shares, “When I was a kid growing up in Southeast Ohio, I would often think about what life would someday become. I can honestly say, this is something I never even dreamed possible. I love this team; they are some of the best people I’ve ever known - and I love the work we get to do together.”
The "connected" documentary premiered on July 27, 2023 and has more than one million views on Dayton Children’s YouTube channel. In addition, the documentary was picked up by Good Morning America, People Magazine, Telemundo and local outlets across the Dayton region.
While the marketing department led the production of the “connected” documentary, this award represents the hundreds of employees who cared for Pedro and Augusto for more three years.
The documentary was produced and directed by Flyback Productions, a Chicago-based production company. View full list of credits.
