mental health resource connection

how does the mental health resource connection work?
The Mental Health Resource Connection program connects patients and families to available mental health services at Dayton Children’s and in the community – striving to improve the mental health and wellness of children within our reach. This service is administered by social workers experienced in evaluating pediatric mental health needs and the services required to meet those needs.
- The program maintains a database of resources available in the community. You can also review these resources using our mental health resource finder.
- A child can be referred to the Mental Health Resource Connection by their primary care physician or by self-referral. The primary care provider will contact the program to confer about the patient in need of mental health services. A social worker will then follow-up with the patient or family by phone or email. If referring by self-referral please fill out our form below to get connected to care.
- You will then be contacted within 10 business days by a member of the team. They will assess the request and complete a screening with the parent or legal guardian, then provide a list of recommended mental health resources for your child. This will include any referrals needed to Dayton Children’s outpatient therapy services, based on insurance, location, need and availability.
- The social worker will continue to work with the family to confirm that a connection was made.
- Confirmation will then be communicated back to the referring physician.
