common
questions

Pediatric gastroenterologists specialize in how digestive conditions affect growing bodies — a child’s nutrition, growth, immune system and energy. Our team is also trained to make exams and testing less stressful for infants, children and teens.

It depends on your insurance. Some plans require a referral from your child’s primary care provider. Contact our billing team if you’re unsure. We can help!

We work to schedule every patient as soon as possible after receiving a referral, prioritizing appointments based on your child’s clinical needs. You can also explore online scheduling to get started right away.

Not necessarily. Your child’s first appointment is a consultation — a conversation, a physical exam and possibly lab work, with no procedures that day. If testing like an endoscopy is needed, our procedure nurses will walk you through scheduling, preparation and exactly what to expect.

Landon’s story

After years of unexplained fevers and worsening symptoms, Landon’s mom trusted her instincts and brought him to Dayton Children’s gastroenterology clinic.

Testing confirmed what his family suspected all along: Crohn’s disease — and with the diagnosis came a treatment plan built just for him.

“We are very thankful for the team at Dayton Children’s,” his mom Taylor says. “They have been so caring and amazing to work with.” What mattered most to the family: caregivers who listened to their concerns and showed compassion at every visit.

Landon’s care team built an individualized treatment plan for his rare, very-early-onset form of IBD — and today, his symptoms under control, he’s back to Kung Fu and video games.

When a diagnosis is complex, Dayton Children’s builds the plan around your child.
