Three east is the patient care are for mostly surgical patients and is located on the third floor of Beerman Pavilion. The unit is newly renovated and accommodates up to 18 patients. There are 16 private rooms and one semi-private room. Each patient room has a bathroom with a shower, a telephone, TV, DVD player and Nintendo. The unit is designed to meet the needs of infants through young adults and their families. Parents are encouraged to participate in their child's care.

Diagnoses or conditions treated

The professional nursing staff has expertise in all areas of pediatrics and work collaboratively with other discipliens, patients and families in managing the patient care of a variety of medical and surgical diagnoses.

These include, but are not limited to:

• general surgical
• orthopedic
• neurosurgical
• burns
• diabetes
• eating disorders

Services available

• 24-hour nursing care
• primary focus on the care of surgical and burn patients
• designated sleeping space for families in each room
• two protective isolation rooms to accommodate
• immunocompromised patients
• child life specialists actively involved with patients, helping them cope with hospitalization and prepare for any procedures they may experience.
