Question My 5-month-old son has always had mucus and bright red blood in stool at times. What could cause this problem? He gets breast milk and occ formula. |

Answer Bright red blood in stools is not normal. Your son needs to be seen and checked by his physician for the cause of the bleeding. But first it has to be proven with a test that it is indeed blood, as some red dyes in juices/food can mimic blood in the stool. Among causes of bleeding include infection, milk allergy, anal fissure, intestinal conditions as intussuception, "Meckel's Divericulum" and so forth. |
