A CHILD’S VOICE AWARD 
Staff nominations for the A Child's Voice Award are now being accepted for both the professional and national level.  The criteria for the professional staff level winner is: Recipient must be a member in good standing of the professional staff, exhibit outstanding efforts toward child advocacy and exhibit leadership in the development of advocacy programs that benefit children in the Miami Valley either directly or indirectly. Any Dayton Children's employee, volunteer or member of the professional staff can nominate a professional staff member for this award.  The nomination package should describe in detail the accomplishments of the nominee. The professional staff office must receive the nomination package by noon on February 8, 2008. The same criteria are also used for the national level. If you wish to nominate someone for the national level award, please provide a nomination package that describes the contributions of the nominee in sufficient detail. THE CHILDREN’S MEDICAL CENTER OF DAYTON RESEARCH FOUNDATION GRANT
It is time to issue a call for proposals for Dayton Children's research grants.  The deadline for submission of the grants is February 1, 2008.  Five copies (paper) or one electronic copy of the proposal should be submitted.  The proposal will be forwarded to the chair of the research committee by February 15, 2008.  Review of all proposals will be completed by May 1, 2008.  The committee will use the standard NIH scoring system to evaluate each proposal.  Contact Amy Blevins at 937-641-5871 with questions.

DIRECT ADMISSION POLICY 
As a result of some changes at Dayton Children’s in the past few months, we are re-examining the policies that are applicable for direct admissions from both community physicians and hospital clinics.  It is essential that if we are unable to place the patient in a bed in a timely manner (as may happen during the busy season), that we have a place to put the child and his/her family where the clinical condition of the child can be monitored.  Stay tuned for more details.  Questions?  Call Cindy Asher at 937-641-8934.

• Professional staff elections are due this winter.  Elections will be held for the chair-elect of the professional staff (department of surgery), chair of surgery and chair of medicine.  Start thinking about possible nominations.
• Professional staff banquet is scheduled for March 7, 2008.  This is an opportunity to interact with your professional staff colleagues, to celebrate the year and to acknowledge the recipient of the Taggart Award.  Stay tuned for invitations.
