NEUROLOGY SUPERDOC ESTABLISHED The division of neurology adopted the “Superdoc” concept for all inpatient and emergency needs as of January 7, 2008. You will no longer have to talk to one neurologist about a hospitalized patient, and a second one for the child who may need to be admitted from your office. All emergent concerns and issues related to hospitalized patients will be addressed by a team headed by the neurologist who is on-call that week. To reach the on-call neurologist during regular business hours, please contact our office at 937-641-3080. After hours or weekends, please call Dayton Children’s operator at 937-641-3000. We hope this change in practice improves communication and, thus, the way we take care of patients. If you have any questions, contact Pedro Weisleder, MD, PhD, at 937-641-3080.
MOIRA PFEIFER, MD, JOINS ENDOCRINOLOGY Dayton Children’s welcomed Moira Pfeifer, MD, as our newest pediatric endocrinologist on January 8, 2008. Dr. Pfeifer joins Dayton Children’s from Wright Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center. Dr. Pfeifer completed her fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. She is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology. A comprehensive range of endocrinology and diabetes mellitus services are available at Dayton Children’s. Endocrinology is accepting all new patient referrals and is available to see new patients quickly. For more information or to speak with the department of endocrinology, call 937-641-3487.
PATIENT SELF CHECK-IN STATIONS This winter, Dayton Children’s departments of gastroenterology and neurology will offer new secure self check-in stations, which will help their preregistered patients and families minimize wait time at appointments. Parents will be able to enter all demographic and insurance data, sign consent forms and even pay their child's copay by credit card. All stations will be available in Spanish. Questions? Call Karen Braun at 937-641-5056.
EPIC CARE On Thursday, January 17, Janice Cobb and colleagues provided a demonstration of EpicCare, the web based application that will allow community-based physicians and other providers to view the medical record of any child linked to the provider or his/her group. This view only application (stay tuned for added functionality in the future) will replace the wellness connection as the portal for review of labs, transcribed documents and clinic visits. We are excited about this next step and will be seeking input from a number of community-based physicians. Questions? Call Tom Murphy, MD, at 937-641-5871.
